Material for making wicker baskets
For wicker baskets different materials are used. Let's consider the most appropriate and common of them.
Willow twigs
Willow rod vines are an excellent material for making baskets. For the result to please, they need to be prepared in advance.
Prepare the twigs better in the fall or spring. Pay attention to the thickness: it should not be more than 1 cm.
To make the weaving process easy, the twigs should be free from bark and well soaked in a salt solution. Soak until the branches shrivel up. After that you should dry them. If the twigs are not dried well enough, the quality of the basket will suffer: it will lose its shape and begin to disintegrate.
Wheat and barley straw
A very malleable and therefore convenient material. Baskets made of wheat and barley straw are light and beautiful.
Birch
Birch bark is the top layer of birch bark. When properly prepared this material is very convenient to work with. Birch birch bark baskets have an unusual coloring and attractive appearance.
For weaving baskets at home you can use paper, cardboard, newspapers, magazines, twine, yarn, etc. So if you have accumulated long-read magazines and newspapers at home, it's time to use them to create household necessities.
