How to draw a goose in a step-by-step pencil - interesting workshops with photo ideas and examples

The goose is a frequent character of Russian and foreign fairy tales. The image of a domestic goose or a wild swan is always a proud bird with a long neck. In art you can find images of both a single bird and a flock of swans flying across the sky. For beginning artists, it will be interesting to learn how to draw two swans on a lake face.

Basic drawing techniques

Among the huge choice of artistic techniques, it should be highlighted a few basic ones available to beginners:

  1. Sketch with a simple pencil.
  2. Drawing with pastel.
  3. Children's drawing with watercolors or gouache.

More complicated techniques refer to professional work, and it takes years of training to learn.

Materials needed for work

To work a beginner artist will need a well-organized workplace: a wide table, a comfortable chair, quality lighting. In addition, it is necessary to prepare the following set of materials:

  1. Album sheets or A4 paper.
  2. Simple pencils with rods of various thickness.
  3. An eraser.
  4. Colored pencils.
  5. Highlighters.
  6. Paints (watercolor, gouache).
  7. Brushes.
  8. Bottles for water.

Sets of pastel crayons may also come in handy if you intend to work with this drawing method.

Drawing Master Classes for Beginners

Almost all pictures, sketches or photos depict geese in a side projection. And it is with this work should begin practical training in drawing domestic or wild birds. The most optimal sketches for the beginner:

  1. A single goose in side projection.
  2. A goose and several small goslings.
  3. Two swans on a lake face. The image of wild birds is often used to decorate greeting cards, letters, or for home applications.

Each of the pictures presented has its own step-by-step instructions for the creative activity. If difficulties arise, the artist should carefully study the details of ready-made drawings, prepare a photo template, and view several video tutorials on drawing a goose.

Drawing a single goose

Having prepared all the necessary materials, you should proceed to the master class:

  1. A sheet of paper is placed on the table in its longitudinal projection.
  2. On the sheet, a pencil should be used to mark the central area where the torso of the goose will be projected. All other parts are placed on the approximate circumference of the central figure.
  3. On the selected area, an oval is drawn with its left edge pointing upward at about 15 degrees.
  4. A circle, the diameter of which is 1/10th of the circumference of the oval, is drawn at a small distance above and to the right.
  5. Between the two main figures is drawn a long corridor - the neck of the goose.
  6. In the center of the circle is depicted eye - a point with two contours.
  7. Beak is drawn in the form of two candies in the area of the left contour of the head.
  8. The front wing, which is available to the viewer, is in the form of an oval with a pointed end. When depicting the front wing, the pencil stroke is directed directly opposite to the direction of the first oval figure.
  9. The two tarsi depart from the lower contour of the torso. The hind leg protrudes 2/3 of the silhouette of the front leg.

The last task facing the artist is to smooth out the sharp angles, creating smooth transitions between the details of our solitary goose. Feathers are finished on the front wing, the tips of the feathers are sharp, pointing backward and upward.

On the upper fold of the beak, small bumpy protrusions are displayed, giving the bird a realistic look. The slightly protruding forehead is a distinctive feature of both domestic and wild birds.

Having made the final touches with an eraser, all that remains is to give the figure some color. Geese are most often performed in gray shades of the palette: darker colors on the wings, lighter tones on the neck and head.

Drawing a goose and goslings

The most famous image of the family of domestic geese is the mother goose with a chain of little goslings behind her. The same set of materials as for the previous method is needed for drawing. Instructions for drawing a goose family:

  1. The older bird is depicted according to the already known scheme.
  2. The little geese are another matter. Before starting work, you should carefully study all the details of ready-made drawings, photos, and sketches.
  3. The little goose differs not only in its smaller size, but also in other proportions of the torso. The drawing will be characterized by the following features: a large head, a short neck and a low-set torso.
  4. Two circles are drawn on a sheet of paper. The lower circle has a more elongated shape. Between the two parts spend a thin strip, which complete the contours of the goose neck.
  5. Big head also takes another form - more rounded and with a fairly voluminous beak.

The other details are shaded like the previous drawing. To create a children's drawing or a fairy tale story, you can use brighter shades when painting.

Swans on the lake surface

This master class is more challenging for the novice artist. Instructions for drawing a pair of swans:

  1. On a sheet of paper you should draw two ovals, located close to each other.
  2. From the ovals you need to draw two lines so that together they limit the figure of the heart.
  3. For the bodies of swans on the sides draw two large ovals. Unlike the other models presented, the ovals are strictly horizontal.
  4. The contours of the neck are drawn along the two lines, and the features of the head, beak and eyes are drawn carefully. Beaks must be directed downwards for both swans.
  5. Work on the torso is to finish drawing the front wings and tail.

The water surface is depicted in the form of small wavy lines. Swans in the drawing may be white or black, and the surface of the lake may be blue.

The acquired knowledge of depicting a pet or wild bird can be applied both to teach a child the basics of art and to decorate a gift card. Drawing a goose or a swan is a very easy task, you only need training and desire from the master.
