Techniques for making applique from colored threads
Dense cardboard is best suited as a base, because the paper base can get soaked under the glue composition. There are several options for composing an applique and each technique has its own characteristics, and the way of implementation, which affects the options for making creative crafts:
- The use of cut into small sections of woolen threads, it is best to choose thick enough materials to ensure complete coverage of the selected element or part of the composition;
- laying on the contour of individual parts of whole threads, spiral or sequential filling of individual elements of the appliqué using woolen material or embroidery threads (mouliné).
In order for the little master to get a perfect picture, you should use a pre-selected technique and a template for the craft. The template is a cardboard base with the outlines of the drawing, best of all, if the sketch consists of closed geometric elements covered with threads.
Using cut threads
Having previously picked up a template, you can begin preparing for the creative process, which consists of several stages:
- choose threads of different colors to fill the individual elements of the pattern;
- woolen threads are cut into pieces of 0.5 - 1 cm depending on the size of the pattern;
- one element of the pattern is covered with a thin layer of PVA glue without going beyond the edges of the workpiece;
- the manually glued area is covered with cut woolen threads;
- the edges of the dried workpieces are outlined with colored felt-tip pens of the appropriate color.
This method is suitable for using leftover threads from another type of needlework and creating uncomplicated appliqués.
Mosaic coating of parts
To make crafts in this technique, children will need the help of adults, and the instructions must be followed:
- The template is transferred to heavy cardboard and cut into individual elements;
- the selected element is covered with glue and the threads are glued on it one by one;
- on a separate piece of cardboard, the finished composition is assembled and glued together.
For this activity, you can use synthetic thread or floss, which are not separated into separate threads.
Filling in the segments of the pattern
Large and beautiful paintings with large pattern elements can be made in the technique of circular or sequential thread filling:
- A template of the future composition is drawn on paper or heavy cardboard;
- A thin layer of PVA glue is applied to the selected element and filled with thread;
- circular elements are filled starting from the center, threads are stacked in circles;
- shaped components can be filled in sequentially by choosing the stacking direction.
In such a technique, it is possible to make not only a child's drawing or applique, but also a beautiful, geometric composition or abstraction with a lot of details.
Combining different techniques in one craft
Several techniques can be combined on the same handicraft and create a real masterpiece, which will please with its attractiveness. For work you will need two pieces of cardboard, green and yellow woolen thread, PVA glue and a brush, prepared a template with a pattern of several dandelions:
- from orange or bright yellow woolen threads to form pompoms, to give a realistic composition, you can make 1-2 white balls;
- the silhouette of shaped dandelion leaves are transferred to a separate piece of cardboard, covered first with glue, and then with cut green threads;
- the molds are cut out, their contours can be outlined with a dark green felt-tip pen, which will give the appliqué expressiveness and are glued to the general template;
- even segments of flower stems are covered with sequentially glued green threads, you can use segments or lay them in parallel;
- instead of dandelion flower buds, yellow and white pom-poms made of wool threads are glued on the template prepared in advance.
Combining several techniques for making applications of thread can make drawings with different themes, flowers of violets and peonies. Excellent on applications of children's toys and pictures with naturalistic motifs (the sea shore and the setting sun, a forest glade or a mushroom in the grass).
