How to knit a bedspread with needles and crochet - step by step description of schemes, photo ideas, tips

If you are going to crochet a blanket, then I support you with both hands. You have no idea how wonderful it is to sit near the window in the early morning and admire the garden, in the evening sitting at home with a cup of coffee by the fireplace. Yes, even the banal cover in a rug in the apartment in the cold season is a pleasure. I am even silent about the gift (a crocheted plaid or blanket) to friends or relatives, which they would gladly appreciate.

As an element of decor and practicality plaid just looks great everywhere: on your shoulders, on a chair, as a blanket in the woods or at home, an envelope for a small child or a mattress for the same.

Definitely, it gives warmth, comfort, coziness, beauty. If you want to use the element as a decorative piece, decide on the colors and patterns. You may want to choose so that there was harmony with the wall, and with pieces of furniture and curtains.

Knit blankets with needles

If you knit with needles better, you are not the only ones. Many people knit a plaid exactly with needles, as to knit the product is simple and very fast.

For this you do not need to have experience and any special skills. If you consistently follow the instructions and description, then there will be no problems with the output of the finished good product. Here are a few additional tips:

  • To knit a plaid in a short time, it is better to buy a large size yarn
  • Choose the right size knitting needles correctly
  • If the knitting scheme is simple, it is recommended to do the work neatly, so that there were no imperfections on the bedspread, they will after all be noticeable.

"Plush plaid by needlepoint"

What will be needed: 6 skeins (for size 1,10 x1,25) of yarn YarnArt Dolce; needles size 4-5 mm.

  1. It is easier to knit the rug on the "rice" scheme, because the wrong and the right side alternate. The knitting is double-sided and can be knitted on any number of loops (without a stitch). Knit freely.
  2. Row 1: 1 front stitch, 1 back stitch and so repeat until the end of the row;
  3. Row 2: on the contrary, 1 st, 1 sided st and to the end of the row.
  4. Row 3: repeat from row 1.
  5. The perimeter of the rug will have to crochet. Try it! It will be a nice blanket, and so neat!

A blanket - a blanket of sheep's wool

For work you will need: 2000 grams of this sheep's wool, circular needles number 3 and 5 length 120 cm.

Start knitting according to the diagram. The first thing is to make the loops in front of the first arrow, repeat the pattern between the arrows and knit the loops after the second arrow. To keep the height of the plaid, it is important to knit from the first to the 50th row and then repeat from the 3rd to the 50th row. The hem is knitted only up to the 12th row and only on the right side.

Knitting density: main pattern: 29pts x 31 sts. = 10×10 cm; fringe = approx. 8 cm wide.

After 434 stitches, knit main pattern. Close all stitches in 484 rows. Continue with 17 stitches and knit according to the second pattern. At about 6,3 m of the bedspread, close the stitches with the ruching ending on the 12th row. It only remains to sew the border to the outer edges of the bedspread.

That's it. Take the finished work!

Crochet bedspread

Crochet is much more difficult to knit than with knitting needles. If you choose this type, then you are either a professional in this business or "burning" connoisseur of this type of skill. You can make relatively many different works of art with a crochet hook. But I want to warn you that it is also relatively time-consuming. And when choosing a yarn, you should consider that its thickness will depend on the thickness of the final product.

Crochet plaid with a square motif

In this case, on the plaid will be repeated motif size 9x9 cm with a simple and easy pattern. Marserized cotton should be chosen for machine crochet with 3 yarns. Crochet No1. The product turns out to weigh 2 kg. You can choose any color, but white will be too marky (I do not advise to buy for those who have small children, because you will be tortured to wash). But another nuance is possible.

Term knitting may be a bit delayed due to the large size of the rug. Well, think about it, the size of 248 * 168 cm after all! But the motif is more convenient to knit because of a number of factors:

  • No need to drag a ball of wool;
  • If the blank is spoiled, you can unravel it, throw it away, but you can't do that with the whole cloth;
  • You can knit a piece of canvas wherever you want and carry it wherever you want;
  • Each square is quite possible to knit on the different patterns, it turns out even more original!

The density of knitting should be based on the parameter: The first 3 circles of the motif - 5 cm in diameter. Motives need to knit on the scheme. If you have already reached the 8th circle, then after we have to join the 16 rows of 24 motifs. In the scheme you can see everything. And to make a border, you need to fasten the thread in the arch on the needle and tie the whole rug according to the scheme. As a result, you will have an openwork, beautiful, practical and of course, warm plaid.

Plaids and blankets find their application in the interior

Did you know that a rug or a blanket can be used as a cape on a sofa or a bed? It is now stylish and comfortable. Many women prefer to use just things made with their own hands for this purpose.

Very beautifully fashionable looks made cloth of harnesses, stripes, intertwined braid, turnover loops. But the patterns are also far from being left out. Of most interest is Tunisian knitting, Bavarian knitting, double-sided and Scandinavian knitting. Any selection can be chosen.

What are the advantages of knitted plaids?

There are more advantages than disadvantages. Here's a look:

  • Natural
  • Hypoallergenic not harmful to the skin
  • Can make your own.
  • Different in shape, thickness, relief
  • No limits to your imagination.
  • Can be reversible
  • Made to the size of a bed or other furniture
  • Have a rich and wide selection of yarns and colors.

Plaids are masterpieces of design art if made by hand. Imagine how beautifully decorated the rug can be different accessories: embroidery, buttons, lace, fringe, etc.

The disadvantages can include a long time to knit, require a lot of yarn, accumulate dust and need proper washing / drying.

Technology of plaid making

The methods of knitting plaids are varied. If in mass production the goods are carried out using a machine with standard knitting, in the case of manual knitting, you can apply 4 methods:

  • Straight knitting (this is when a loop goes from the edge to the other edge and then passes to the other row)
  • Circular (starts with a chain, then stitches are added in the corners)
  • Diagonal method (or also called oblique)
  • The method of assembly (stitching pieces).

Of course, each technology is individual. Each needlewoman chooses the method that is closest and most familiar. But I want to dwell a little on the assembly of the model from old sweaters. This choice interested me. If you have unwanted sweaters, sweatshirts and even other woolen things, don't rush to throw them away! They can make a good thing out of them!

And the work will be concluded in the following: from things you need to cut squares of equal size and diameter. Each patchwork needs to be overlocked on a machine and sewn together (a bit like Patchwork). Almost everything is ready! Only to make the rug have a decent look on the wrong side, masters sew a fur or fabric lining. The rug looks very original! Look at the photo yourself.

In any case, whether you knit by crochet or needlepoint, the rug or any other thing will look beautiful. Moreover, the knitted thing with their own hands gives much more pleasure and coziness. Good luck with your work!
