How to knit a coat by spit and crochet - a step by step description of the scheme, tips, photo examples

Handmade knitwear often looks very impressive. Some models are worthy to be worn only by stars and wives of monarchs.

Before you knit a coat with his own hands, it is important to get acquainted with all the varieties of styles, choose the right yarn and stock up on patience. It is a fascinating but painstaking process, but the result will justify the investment of time.

Choosing a knitwear

Every girl or woman has a desire to be liked, to be fashionable and unique, causing rapturous glances from passersby. One way to express your bright personality is to knit with your own hands a coat with a beautiful pattern.

You can use a warm wool and goat's down for demi-seasonal models or "summer" yarn for openwork models. In any case, success is guaranteed.

Each designer proposes for the annual collections something special, handmade exclusive. On the catwalks there are dresses, cardigans and coats, made in different techniques. Often these ideas are quickly replicated by fancywork enthusiasts.

To the outside observer, it seems that the catwalks and catalogs have "new" knitwear. But most mature seamstresses know many of the patterns and schemes for a long time. This or that fashion trend is offered as a new pattern, but it is an interpretation of old designs.

Knitted coat is not in every woman's closet, it is often an exclusive thing that not everyone can afford. They are knitted in different techniques, there are variants of execution:

  • with spokes;
  • by crochet;
  • On the knitting machine (dvuhfonturnnoy, hand or with digital matrix).

A spectacular product can afford any fashionista who knows how to knit. But some stylish things not every master will undertake to repeat, even if there is a suitable yarn, model description, measurements and pattern. However, there is nothing difficult about it - it is knitted as an elongated style sweater, the individual parts are then sewn together.

Stylistics of knitted coats

Hand knitwear is perceived organically only when the stylistics is traced.

  1. Patchwork - colorful products made in patchwork technique, knitted in blocks, mostly of the same size. But it is not necessary to adhere to all the nuances, imitating the "patchwork quilt" technique. This style is a great way to tastefully fit leftover yarns of the same thickness of a similar palette. More often than not, the result is an original designer garment that cannot be repeated.
  2. Boho style is bohemian and a little swagger, it is not difficult to design exclusive clothes with it. There is one condition - the whole fashionable image must be sustained in a single style, so that the coat looks really chic. It is worn in a slightly careless manner, mostly wide open.
  3. Chanel is a particular handwriting of the popular to the whole world fashion house. This is a kind of classic, with which a woman of any age will look flawless. The recognizable black and white pattern by Chanel is "pied-de-poul" or chicken foot, a modified plaid. Things tied in this technique in the form of a two-tone coat or cardigan look austere but also chic in a Parisian way, especially with properly selected accessories. The imitation of Chanel can be done in another version, but the yarn must be expensive and of high quality, the style must be impeccable.
  4. Country is a cozy "rustic" style, which appreciates everything simple and natural. Natural colors, a minimum of accessories, wooden or horn buttons, a little angular cut. Knitted cardigans, jackets and coats are made only from natural yarn in gray, brown, green, terracotta or milk color. Often in this deliberate simplicity you can see the refined images of Provence or the Wild West.
  5. Modern stylistics is largely eclectic. Although fashion is fickle, the classic styles and expressive coarsely knit coats with memorable patterns will still be relevant in many years.

Variety styles of knitted outerwear

Bound by hand coat will always be original and a bit extravagant subject of the fashionable closet. Handmade knitwear does not suit everyone due to the peculiarities of the figure. However, with the right choice of silhouette, style and length of the product can easily hide your flaws and emphasize a bright personality.

  • What kind of image to choose - classic strict, playful and careless or emphasized-fashionable? It all depends on the additions and characteristics of the figure.
  • A designer coat is not just a stitched shelves, sleeves, back and collar (you can do it without it). All elements of the model must harmonize in proportion, but there must be some novelty.

"The Golden Rule! With an oversized top you need a narrowed bottom, and a flared long coat assumes a precise fit at the level of the shoulder and chest.

The basic classification of knitted outerwear by seasonality:

  • Summer (chasuble, openwork transformer or other alternative of linen, viscose or cotton threads);
  • Demi-seasonal items (from warm yarn, they can walk in windless weather until winter).

Silhouettes of knitwear:

  • straight;
  • Flared (no buckle);
  • flared from the hip;
  • trapezoidal;
  • X-shaped (fitted);
  • Oversize (loose garments as if two sizes bigger).

A soft belt made of the same yarn or a rigid leather belt is used in fitted pieces. But even without it the model looks quite self-sufficient.

Important: Tops made of heavy yarn tighten the figure, so they are knitted a little "oversize".

Light openwork coats assume a competent selection of clothes in color and texture, so that the see-through pattern looks good. Otherwise shazzy looks a bit vulgar, like a negligee with a nightgown. In all other respects, summer openwork coats are knitted like any blouse of an elongated style. They look great with tight pants and a tank top or summer sundress.

Knitted coats with voluminous aran patterns

All kinds of harnesses, braids, figure eight and other intricate weaves, increasing the volume of knitwear, always look luxurious. These are so-called "Aran patterns," made fashionable by Scandinavian craftsmen.

Once upon a time, harnesses were knitted by men on sweaters made of natural sheep's wool, in between shifts in fishing. Most likely, these voluminous patterns will never go out of fashion, but will be replenished with new variations of weaves with descriptions on specialized sites.

If you want to knit a coat that will be relevant for another 10-20 years, you should start mastering this technique of hand knitting. However, you need a certain experience and skill to knit intricate braids on 3 spokes (1 extra). Some of the loops in the braids are rearranged in places at equal intervals, forming a weave.

Needlewomen know quite a few of these patterns, they are able to understand a complex scheme or come up with their own interpretation of the Aran patterns. A warm coat with "braids" and "figure eight" from sheep's yarn, llama and alpaca looks great on any figure. It is worn until frost.

We offer a master class on knitting flagellants and braids.

Over-sized coats for overweight ladies

Someone came up with the idea that handmade knitwear is contraindicated to lush ladies, but this is far from it. Another thing is how to properly wear such things to hide the features of the figure.

Important! Stylists and fashion bloggers in their articles and videos recommend wearing under knitwear tightening underwear. It will provide aesthetics and increase self-confidence.

Recommendations for choosing knitted coats for full girls:

  1. Choose an A-shaped or trapezoidal silhouette. Straight and tight styles will not look advantageous on a full chest and a noticeable tummy. Overcoat with the top button or with only one button on the top - that is your variant.
  2. You should not get carried away with too voluminous patterns, but ironing on large spokes will balance the "wide format".
  3. It is important to choose the right finishing details. Fur trim (its imitation) on the cuffs, hood or collar will emphasize the completeness of the small growth. For taller ladies or under a high heel it is quite acceptable.
  4. Do not use models with a wide knitted belt and large patch pockets, they will make the figure even larger.
  5. Dark yarn with a small "honeycomb" pattern and spectacular shiny buttons distract from the peculiarities of a woman's figure.
  6. Coats in patchwork technique and wide stripes are not your format. It is better to knit something with vertical small braids, but you can take as a basis a two-color jacquard or a black and white "pied de poule" in the style of "Chanel".

Every girl or woman should know what suits her and what does not. This is important to consider not only when choosing ready-made clothing, but also when planning what to knit with your own hands. Handmade things, especially warm coats for the off-season, are time-consuming.

It would be a shame to knit a coat, then find out it doesn't fit. Of course, a luxurious product can always be sold, but it is better to choose a model for yourself "with the loss in the ten". A selection of stylish knitted coats on the photo will help to navigate with the choice of silhouette, pattern and color of yarn.
