Handmade metal crafts - a selection of simple and complex master classes with examples of photo products
Metal is a great material for creativity. It is not simple, as it may seem at first glance. The work requires certain skills and abilities. Do not do without special tools and devices. But, the result obtained from the work, will surpass all expectations. Often you get great products that can become a decoration of the interior of the house, garden or garden plot at the cottage.
Let's consider several options for metal crafts, performed with their own hands.
Handicrafts that do not require special skills
Working with metal is difficult, but we have selected a few options for items that are done, with a minimum of effort. But imagination is still needed here.
Crafts from thin sheet metal
If you buy a thin sheet of metal, then work with sharp scissors. You will not need additional devices - you can make a figure quite easily. We suggest a product in the form of an owl. To make it you need to buy:
- Sheet metal, narrow strips.
- Backing - a rectangular wooden board no thicker than 0.5 cm.
- Nails, fixing the elements.
- Sharp scissors.
The sequence of work:
- It is necessary to draw in detail a sketch.
- Use a marker (preferably a permanent one) to transfer the drawing from the sketch to a sheet of metal on the inside.
- Use sharp scissors to cut out the elements.
- Take a tool that can be used to press out bulges or grooves on the inside of the metal. A spoon with a rounded end of the handle will do.
- You can take additional elements, such as buttons or plastic parts. They will serve as the eyes of the bird, or additional decorative elements that decorate the finished products.
- When the elements of the owl are cut out, proceed to combine into one finished product.
- Fixing the metal elements to the board is carried out with thin nails.
Handicrafts with a child
If there is a strip of thin metal, it is easy enough to work with it. Therefore, it will be possible to involve a child in such manipulations.
It is very easy to make a snail out of strip metal. To do this, it is necessary to cut off the desired length of the strip. Then begin to wrap it in a spiral.
The body is also made of sheet metal.
The main difficulty in this case will be to fix the body and the spiral-shaped house. But here, too, ingenuity will come to the rescue. If it is not possible to fix it rigidly, you can use duct tape. This is especially true if the sheet metal is quite thin and does not have significant weight.
There may be a question as to how aesthetically pleasing the glossy tape will look. To solve this problem is even easier - just take acrylic paint and paint the snail along with the scotch. It is a layer of polymer coating will hide all the irregularities and additionally used materials.
If it is not possible to work with tools, you should choose crafts that include finished metal products, which should be combined with each other.
Complex products that require skill and additional tools
If there is a welding machine, it is possible to perform a metal craft of any complexity. Nothing will limit the imagination, and in the case of purchasing scissors for metal. A small hammer with an anvil make the process even more creative and diverse. In this case, nothing limits either the skill of the creator of the craft or the flight of his imagination. Any idea can be realized, even using scrap metal.
Flat original designs
If there is a desire to make a handicraft, which will decorate the garden plot, house facade or fence, you can perform a flat image of any animal, flower or other object.
In this case you will need sharp cutting tools with which you can cut out the desired image. The main part of the work will be to create a suitable sketch.
After you have created a size-appropriate object on paper or cardboard, you should transfer it to the metal.
Then use a cutting tool to cut not only the outline. But, preferably the inner perforation. It is the inner holes in the flat sculpture that will help to recreate the image in the most naturalistic way and give it some lightness.
With this method you can create an original plate number of a private house. If you are not satisfied with the appearance of the metal, you can decorate the product with a suitable composition of paint.
For such work as a master class, you can involve a teenager, especially if he has a desire for applied work.
Three-dimensional sculpture
If there is sheet metal, you can make a volumetric sculpture, decorating the interior or garden plot.
The design is performed similarly to the previous product. The only difference is that here you need to cut several elements, which are joined at right angles.
The main point is to create a product that has a certain thickness. It can be different, depending on the desire.
For a volumetric statue, you need to make two identical blanks. And then there are blanks of the end part, which will give volume to the entire structure.
When each element is cut out of metal, they must be joined into one piece. This is done by welding. But it will be necessary to show certain skills and abilities. After all, a roughly made seam can ruin the appearance of the finished product. However, if it was not too accurate to weld the elements of the design, they can then be grinded with a grinder. True, this will take some time and effort, so it is better to do everything more carefully.
Option of a volumetric figure
The use of flat sheet products, connected at right angles by inserting them into the grooves, allows you to create a three-dimensional model. The thickness of the groove must match the thickness of the metal. Additional attachment is made by welding at the joints to give rigidity to the structure.
Tooling for bending allows you to get away from linearity. Curved elements look more natural. The construction gets a naturalistic look. Coloring achieves variety and the formation of stylistic direction.
The imagination of metal crafts is almost unlimited. You can learn different variations from the photos below.
