How to draw a guy and a man full-length: photo of the main stages of work
Almost anyone wants to use their own painting at home, which is one of the most difficult images that can depict painters. Not exclusively that there is a huge need for this particular type of design.
Therefore, it is the duty of the beginner and professional painter that you can gradually improve your facial skills, because through the face you can give not only gender and age, but also the distinctiveness and emotionality of a person.
Portraits are divided into 3 types according to their own distinctiveness: children, women, and men. Today we will learn how to portray the last look: a portrait of a man in ordinary pencil. It has its own peculiarities and secrets, which we will discuss in this step-by-step lesson.
When showing a man's face, it's worth noting the important concepts below:
- It is easier to draw a man's face in pencil from a photo than from nature. If you are new to drawing, start drawing faces from a photo right away. You can measure the right scale with a pencil or ruler on the photo and transfer it proportionally to the canvas.
- The main difficulty in portraiture is the ability to convey a person's emotional attitude, facial expressions and mood. Therefore, the artist must notice all the sensual qualities of the person and be able to reflect it on paper.
- Men's features are coarser and larger than women's. Therefore, men have more pronounced facial bones and less fat layer. In addition, they usually have a more massive chin, and the lower jaw is characterized by rather sharp angles. Also, in a portrait of a man in pencil, you can see quite noticeable cheekbones and eyebrows. And note that men's necks are also thicker and have an Adam's apple on them.
For all this we will need: a white paper sheet, an ordinary pencil and an eraser.
Stages of work
With a regular pencil, mark the level and scale of a man's face. Any man's volume stands out, but the average height is more than half the width.
We are presenting the portrait in its entirety, so the goal is a little simplified. We create the left and right edges symmetrical. We draw a rounded forehead and on top we outline the cheekbones and chin.
At the top of the face we build a curved line along which we will distribute the hair another time. At the edges we move back a small distance and correct it (for the ears). Draw a curved line in the front to form the hair level.
Draw a centerline across the entire face. This is known to help soften the facial features. To distribute the eyes, you need to divide the entire head level into halves, which is what we created by drawing the line horizontally. Now add the height of the nose. It is located slightly above the middle of the lines of the eyes and the chin.
Then draw the scale of the mouth. From the far corners of the nose, draw a line downwards. And from the chin put the same lines. These 4 lines cross, presumably in the middle between the nose and chin.
Draw the nose, defining the width. Add the ears. They will become slightly covered by the hair on top.
He will have large eyebrows. For now, let's mark their width with a line. We take our time to understand their elements. Draw the shape of the hair and the lower part of the face, softening the features.
A man's face in pencil - let's depict the details
The next stage of our work is to draw the details. Now we can complete the eyes. It is important not to overdarken, so the line is small. We apply the strokes of the eyebrows and depict the nose.
Let's proceed to the lips. We will make them medium volume with soft edges. We'll make the chin rounded.
At this stage, mark the location of the bristles at the nose. Using an ordinary pencil, mark the main features of the face: the contour, eyes, nose. Start shading the face. First you need to draw the edges of the face.
Now draw a line from the two edges of the nose, the upper lip and the inside of the eyes. With maximum strength we emphasize the eyes and eyebrows.
Draw a shadow on the cheekbones, beard and hair. We continue to increase the intensity of the shadows and work the elements.
Below we trace the main features of the man's neck, shoulders and clothing. We increase the facial contrast and emphasize the cheekbones, mouth and eyes.
Add a shadow in front of the hair. We decided to continue working the shadow on the face, creating qualities more compact and softer.
We move on to the neck. The color of its body is darker than its face. Let's spread out the Adam's apple and the clavicle. Make the portrait more thorough by emphasizing the contour of the face. Improve the color of the eyes and create a sharper outline of the cheekbones. We add bristles to the cheekbones, around the mouth and chin. We refinish missed stages.
We do the shading.
Gradually shade other parts of the face, neck and hair. We regularly look at the original portrait and check it. We achieve maximum naturalness. And all is done.
We have a drawing like this. Maybe a pencil-drawn portrait of a man won't be as professional, but you don't have to worry. You are just beginning this approach, and you have everything ahead of you.
A man's portrait shows significant differences from a woman's portrait. You may notice that the features are sharper and harsher, which is completely alternative to the female type. This is the main rule to remember when portraying a human face. Now you can go further and try to represent your friends and relatives by following the proven material.
