Many interesting baskets are sold in souvenir stores, which, no doubt, can decorate any interior and serve as a nice gift. But the product, made by your own hands, will be unique and can be an object of admiration for your friends. Such baskets can also be made functional.

This article gives recommendations on the choice of material, the technology of making and ways of decorating handmade baskets.

Paper and cardboard baskets

Paper and cardboard is the most accessible and inexpensive material for crafts. It is easy to reshape, so even a child can handle it. Cardboard can be used to make baskets of different shapes, colors, sizes up to doll size, baskets for themed holidays, as well as functional items.

Basket made of corrugated cardboard

The upper layer of corrugated cardboard should be removed so that it becomes more flexible. You can pre-color it with any paints in the desired color. Then cut it into strips 3-4 cm wide. For a medium-sized basket, cut a strip 43 cm long. This will be the rim.

For the handle you need a 36 cm long strip. For the bottom cut four 28 cm long strips and arrange them crosswise. All parts should be glued together or stapled together. Decorate the basket can be ribbons, bows, paper flowers.

Basket made of newspaper tubes

The newspaper should be cut into strips and by winding them on a needle form the tubes. Paint them with paint in the desired colors and dry them. For an average basket you need about 100 tubes. They should be stacked in pairs, form a cross of them. Attach a long tube to the center and fold it in half, she and produce weaving. Vertical columns are braided first two together, and then - each one. After a few rows to glue a few additional vertical posts.

The product is more convenient to put on the jar, then the braiding will be even.

When the height is enough, the struts can be trimmed. And the main weaving tubes are built up with another color. Then the plaiting changes: the leftmost one should be taken not behind the neighboring one, but behind the fourth stand. Do the same with the next tube. Cut the ends and hide. To make the basket does not bend need to prime it with PVA glue and varnish.

Basket of paper

You will need wrapping paper. Even wallpaper will do. You need to cut ribbons from paper, fold them several times in length and sew them with thread. Thread should be black or the same color as the basket. From these blanks we start to weave a basket by throwing the strips one by one. We get a lattice, which holds its shape. To fix the made product, fasten it with silicone glue.

Fabric baskets

Fabric baskets can find useful applications, such as:

  • as a laundry basket;
  • Storage containers for children's toys;
  • stands for newspapers and magazines;
  • boxes for needlework;
  • a cover for a planter, and much, much more.

To create a basket, you can use both monochrome and colored fabric. From the fabric you need to cut two circles and two rectangles, the length of the rectangle should be equal to the perimeter of the circle. Blanks to fold inside out and sew the circle to the rectangle. Basket is ready.

It is up to the craftsman's discretion, beautiful bows, florets, lace, etc., will do. Such baskets can be decorated in the Easter style, put Easter and eggs in it and carried to the temple for the consecration.

Wicker baskets

Willow twigs (vine) are suitable for basket making. Willow is easy to find on the banks of the river, but it should be cut only in the fall and spring, when the branches are flexible. Prepared branches should be soaked in water for two weeks, changing the water daily. Then take off their bark and dry.

The bottom is woven from eight twigs, in half of them piercing holes with an awl to get a cross. Two twigs encircle four twigs. So weave two circles. Then all 16 twigs are braided each separately. At the very end another twig is added. Then the poles are bent to make a right angle and continue braiding to the full height. The last row is braided. For the handle takes a thick branch and braid it in a spiral thin. The basket should dry in 2-3 days.

With such crafts you can go to the woods for mushrooms, berries and herbs, put fruits and vegetables from the garden in them.

If you make an oval-shaped basket and a larger size, it can even carry a newborn baby.

Basket, crocheted by crochet

It is necessary to prepare a hook twice as thick as the thread. First you need to make a "stiff" loop, then you need to crochet 8 columns without a stitch. The second row - add another 4 columns, the third and fourth row - add 6 columns each. In the same way knit another 4-5 rows. This will serve as the bottom. Next knit sides, without adding stitches.

For the handles are knit on each side of 7 stitches and trailing two rows of columns without a stitch. If you separately tie multicolored butterflies and sew baskets, you get a very beautiful and original product. Knitted baskets are convenient for storing various household little things: pins, hairpins, jewelry, etc. You can also knit mini baskets if you take a smaller hook. We get souvenirs or accessories for dolls.
