Dollhouse with their own hands - interesting ideas from plywood, cardboard, wood
The original house for dolls is not always a children's toy, but sometimes acts as a decorative element of the interior in the room. Today we know a lot of materials, schemes and ready-made drawings for creating a dollhouse.
Choosing the material for the house
Consider the most well-known materials for creating a doll house:
- Plywood. A great option, ideal for work. The advantages are the strength of the frame, resistance to mechanical stress and ease of operation.
- Gypsum board. It is also quite a strong option for making a house. More often than not, massive multi-story models are formed from this basis. To bind it, you will need several metal corners and construction tools. A clear advantage is the convenience of applying decorative elements: paint, acrylic varnish, fabric blanks.
- OSB boards. Pressed chip has a number of pleasant properties: frame strength, resistance to high humidity, does not absorb unpleasant odors. On the surface of the OSB house it is not difficult to apply paint or varnish.
- Cardboard. The cheapest and easiest in practical use material. Most often, such a variant is used for joint work with children: cardboard is easy to cut with a stationery knife or scissors, no construction tools are needed. Disadvantages are the fragility of cardboard, unstable to moisture.
- Furniture boards. This basis is particularly popular among craftsmen: the material has good environmental indicators, it is easy to use in practice. Shields have a pleasant decorative appearance, the blanks can easily be connected using durable glue.
As you can see, each of the proposed options has a lot of advantages and certain disadvantages. The choice of material in each case depends on the wishes of the master, the purpose of the future product, the planned costs of materials and decorative finishing.
Creating a doll's house from plywood
The most commonly used material is plywood sheets. They allow you to create a strong frame, an even surface. Such a construction will be stable, and the walls of the house can easily be decorated with ordinary paint and transparent varnish. The entire work is made up of consecutive stages:
- Creation of a drawing.
- Work on the fabrication of the frame.
- Assembly of the roof.
- Finishing of windows and doors.
In the process of work, small changes may appear concerning the features of the decorative finish.
Creating a blueprint
Correctly and carefully executed plan-scheme will allow the work to be carried out with minimal errors and difficulties. The main points that should be specified in the drawing:
- The height of the cabin.
- Depth of rooms.
- The number of floors.
- The number and location of window and door openings.
- The arrangement of the roof.
Drawings can be made several: the main scheme, which will show the overall dimensions, and auxiliary drawings with images of individual elements.
Making the frame
Making each wall and its decorative finish is a separate process. To work with plywood sheets you will need the following set of tools:
- An electric jigsaw.
- Construction pencil.
- A ruler.
- A planer for sanding surfaces.
For a decorative finish, you should prepare:
- Paints and brushes.
- Wallpaper and glue.
- Acrylic varnish.
- Decorative windows and doors.
Work on the creation of the doll house should be carried out accurately and strictly according to the previously created drawing. To help in this process, the novice craftsman can follow a step by step guide:
- On a sheet of plywood, outline a blueprint for the wall, coordinating its dimensions according to the drawing. Draw windows and doors.
- Use a jigsaw to cut the workpiece. Then it is necessary to grind the edges of the cut to avoid jagged edges and knots.
- The interior surface should be wallpapered.
- If a window or door is provided on this wall, then at this stage they are pasted and painted.
- The outer side can also be decorated right now (although the external finish can be done after the frame is assembled).
Allow the workpiece to dry. Consistently make all the walls and intermediate floor elements, if the house has several floors.
Assembling the roof
More often than not, dollhouses use conventional two-slope roof models, as they are versatile in their practical execution. Ready-made drawings for making the upper part of the house can be found in magazines or on web resources on practical design, needlework. Step-by-step instructions for creating a two-pitch roof:
- Several rafters must be made from plywood sheets, which will hold the covering in place by weight.
- The rafters are attached to the upper edges of the walls, soft and beautiful material.
- Make blanks for the roof: two plates of plywood or OSB. Before attaching them, they must be painted, let the products dry.
- The upper surfaces of the rafters are smeared with glue, attach blanks for the roof.
The frame of the doll house is ready. Now you can begin to decorate the facade of the house, think of the elements of lighting, furniture fittings, Barbie dolls or other residents.
Original author's models of dollhouses
The classic model, such as the one discussed earlier, has two floors and a standard arrangement of rooms. But today there is a huge variety of ideas for the arrangement and design of houses.
Two-story house with a terrace
To create such a model, it will be necessary to make changes to the drawing:
- To the standard frame make a sketch of an auxiliary room.
- The extension itself can be used as a garage, and instead of the second tier form a summer terrace.
Changes, of course, will also affect the process of making blanks. It will be necessary to create:
- Three additional walls with windows and garage doors.
- A single pitched roof for the extension.
- Terrace railings.
- Furniture: tables, sofa, decorative plants.
Work on the creation of this model will require enough time and skill.
Doll's house inside a wooden stump
This author's idea is distinguished by the original material and an interesting approach to work.
A wooden stump is used as a base and frame, the core of which is cut out. The inner surfaces are treated with antiseptic, antipyretic and antifungal solutions. Provision is made for the preservation of several wooden crossbars to form the floors. Also, according to the designer's idea, there is internal lighting on the upper tier. Installation of the furniture row and arrangement of rooms is made individually, depending on the idea of the master.
Today the dollhouse has acquired a new status - not just a toy, but also an original element of decor. Thanks to this fact, new manufacturing techniques, interesting design ideas and original models are being developed in the art. With photos of the most interesting variants of dollhouses can be found on websites on practical needlework, and if you want - and create them with your own hands.
